Chihuly Collection: Exploring the Colorful & Vibrant World of Glass Art
Dale Chihuly – is a world renowned American glass artist known for his mesmerizing, intricate and colorful glass sculptures that have captivated audiences around the world. For me, Chihuly’s glass artwork stands among the very best I have encountered.
Born in Tacoma, Washington in 1941 and grew up in the Pacific Northwest. He studied interior design and architecture at the University of Washington in Seattle and later received an MFA in sculpture from the Rhode Island School of design.

People always ask why does he wear an eye patch?
In 1976, during his visit in England, Chihuly suffered a serious injury in a car accident that left him blind in one eye ( left ) and it took him months to recuperate.

The Chihuly Collection at the Morean Arts Center in St. Pete ( FL ) is a stunning display of the artwork of the famous glass artist Dale Chihuly. The collection features a variety of Chihuly’s signature pieces, including vibrant glass sculptures, intricate chandeliers and intricate glass installations. The Morean Arts Center is the only permanent collection of Chihuly’s work in Florida and IT’S A MUST-VISIT destination for art lovers.

The Chihuly Collection features more than 200 pieces of Chihuly’s work including his iconic glass chandeliers, neon-colored blown glass sculptures and colorful glass installations.
Visitors to the museum will be awed by the sheer beauty and scale of the pieces on display which range from delicate individual glass forms to massive, multi piece installations.

Prepare to be immersed in a mesmerizing sea of cobalt and sapphire as you encounter Chihuly’s Azul de Medianoche chandelier. This awe-inspiring masterpiece commands attention with its grandeur and evokes a sense of enchantment that is nothing short of extraordinary.
Azul de Medianoche Chandelier
Suspended from above, the chandelier cascades with an abundance of hand-blown glass elements reminiscent of frozen water droplets. The depths of blue hues capture the imagination, as if you were gazing into the midnight sky, adorned with celestial jewels. The chandelier’s composition is a symphony of shapes and sizes, with elongated tendrils, gracefully intertwining while smaller clusters of glass globes create a delicate harmony.

Carnival Chandelier

Persian Ceiling
Like WOW!!
Another MUST-SEE piece in the collection is the ” Persian Ceiling “ a massive installation of intricate glass forms that creates the impression of an underwater world. The installations is composed of hundreds of colorful glass pieces, including undulating tendrils, starbursts, and other organic shapes that seem to float above the viewer’s head.
To be honest, I got stuck here @ The Persian Wall for a little bit I kept saying ” Wow Oh Wow, Oh my God ” and once you are past this Persian Ceiling it will lead you to a magnificent chandelier and my all time favorite. Red is my favorite color, that’s why.

Ruby Red Icicle Chandelier
Dale Chihuly’s Red Ruby Icicle Chandelier is a captivating and iconic piece of glass art and I would say is my MOST FAVORITE PIECE. It is part of his larger body of work known as the ” Chandeliers ” series. This chandelier is renowned for its striking combination of vibrant red glass elements and its grand, cascading form.
The chandelier features an array of individually hand-blown glass elements that resemble elongated icicles. The glass pieces are typically translucent allowing light to pass through them and creating a mesmerizing play of color and illumination. The Red Ruby Icicle Chandelier intricate
The ” Ruby Red Icicle Chandelier “ a stunning installations that hangs from the ceiling of the museum’s main gallery. The chandelier is composed of 600 individual hand-blown glass pieces, each shaped like a delicate icicle, and is illuminated from within to create a brilliant ruby glow. The chandelier’s intricate arrangement of glass icicles creates a sense of movement and dynamism, evoking the impression of frozen in time.

Ikebanas, Chartreuse and Black Venetians, Piccolo Venetians
The Ikebanas are traditionally Japanese inspired which focuses on the arrangement of flowers, stems and branches. Chihuly’s interpretation of Ikebana incorporates his signature glass elements resulting in unique and striking compositions.
And one of Chihuly Collections highlight at the Morean Arts Center is Mille Fiori series. This is remarkable body of glass artwork characterized by its vibrant and intricate floral patterns ” Mille Fiori ” translates to a ” Thousand Flowers ” in Italian which aptly describes the essence of this series.

In Mille Fiori, Chihuly creates exuberant and immersive installations composed of numerous individually hand-blown glass elements. These elements, resembling flowers, leaves, and vines are expertly arranged to form lush and visually stunning sculptures. The series showcases the artist’s skill in orchestrating the interplay of colors, shapes and textures, resulting in breathtaking and mesmerizing compositions.

Macchia Forest
Another captivating glass artwork is the Macchia Forest. One of the mesmerizing aspects of this artwork is its transparency how the glass can transmit and refract light in exquisite ways. The unique properties of the glass, combined with the skill of creativity of Chihuly, give rise to pieces that shimmer, glow and transmit an ethereal beauty.
