Waterlicht Tampa Experience By Daan Roosegaarde
“Waterlicht” is an art installation created by Dutch artist Daan Roosegaarde. It is a large-scale light installation that uses LED technology and lenses to create the illusion of a virtual flood of water flowing over the landscape. The installation is meant to raise awareness about the power and importance of water, particularly in the context of climate change and rising sea levels.
Roosegaarde’s “Waterlicht” has been exhibited at various locations around the world, including parks and urban spaces. The immersive experience of the installation is designed to make viewers reflect on the potential impact of water-related issues and inspire them to take action to address environmental challenges. It is both a stunning visual spectacle and a thought-provoking artistic statement about the fragility of our relationship with water and the planet.
Waterlicht in Tampa
So let’s take a look of what we can find in tonight’s experience as we explore this promising art installation light show. Upon entering the show you will see people dining in on the side having a great time watching the show. I read this is their second time here in Tampa as they do their world tour then they will be back in The Netherlands.
Free Admission
I was browsing online when I came to this post that they are here in Tampa but only for 3 days. I check their page and it looks promising so I didn’t think twice and made a ticket reservation. It is free BUT you need to make a reservation. The first 2 nights were sold out but I was able to secure 3 tickets for 9pm on the last night. Since it is located in Channelside, of course parking is a chaos but we made it after sometime. LOL.
Location: Channelside
Channelside is a waterfront district in Tampa, Florida. It’s known for its vibrant mix of entertainment, dining, and residential spaces. Visitors can enjoy the Florida Aquarium, Port Tampa Bay, and an array of restaurants, bars, and shops. The area has undergone significant redevelopment, making it a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. It offers a dynamic urban experience and easy access to events at the Amalie Arena, making Channelside a hub of activity in Tampa.
Make sure you don’t get to miss this new cool hang out place, opened in on my birthday on November 30,2019. Sparkman Wharf is your go to when it comes to outdoor and entertainment destination.
Though I live in Tampa Bay area, I have not been here in a while, a lot of changes, new restaurants and bars. Even parking garages are new around the area. If you are on vacation or planning to take a vacation in Tampa Bay make sure you visit Channelside and Ybor City where you will find the oldest restaurant in Florida and the largest Spanish restaurant in the world Columbia Restaurant.
I recently visited the restaurant and had an amazing experience, you can check it out HERE.
Waterlicht Experience
Waterlicht is located in Channelside area, it covers 500 feet of Waters street between Channelside drive and Cumberland Avenue.
In the presence of ‘Waterlicht’ by Daan Roosegaarde, I was enveloped by a surreal world of luminous waves, feeling as though I’d stepped into a dream. I am irresistibly drawn to the vibrant interplay of lights and colors, one of my weaknesses, finding their beauty and energy endlessly captivating.
The interplay of light and shadow painted an ethereal landscape, emphasizing the power and beauty of water. One of the main purpose of this art show is for you to feel like ” how it is under water ” It was a truly immersive and thought-provoking encounter, a reminder of the delicate balance between nature and humanity.
Here are some of the photos I took in this surreal experience.
Perfect for a Halloween Weekend Event in Tampa
One of my favorite photo..as this light show is about raising awareness of rising global sea levels, how I describe this photo is like “as sea level rises, we are submerged like lost souls beneath the relentless waves.”
